I want to introduce my latest book. 'The challenge of Racism in Therapeutic Practice.
The book covers themes and experiences that challenge therapist's engagement with the theme of racism. I have included chapters on the denial and the mythology of post racism, the impact of Shadism, taboo and slavery and colonialism. I have also presented some ideas about gender influences, internalised oppression and black rage. To support exploration of these contexts I have utilized some concepts that were introduced in my previous book. The concept of recognition trauma, a black empathic approach, black Western archetypes and ancestral baggage are some of these. The book presents some interviews and case material that exemplify how the challenge of racism can be explored within the context of therapist, client and supervisor support.

The task of writing the book has been very challenging I am relieved that it is now completed and I can wind down. I do hope that you will read it and make use of it.

Yes Anne. Thank  you  for your attention to my comment. My apologies that it appeared as unfinished. The question of compulsive independence repeatedly pops up. In particular it can be linked to the intergenerational impact of racism, where the traumatic impact of racism can be unconsciously passed on via family relationships. This type of emotional struggle can appear as a defence against trusting others to really support and hold an individual. It can also signify lack of intimate connection to others due to past hurts from oppressions such as racism. Symptoms of compulsive independence manifest in drivers and a need to help others, but not asking for help and support.
