NEW!
An ethical promise to the theme of black lives matter, presented at 7th Relational Coaching Conference 2022
This talk begins with Isha’s own journey to empowerment and finding a voice. It addresses the importance of creating safe spaces for dialogue about the traumatic impact of racism on personal development and making an ethical commitment to open dialogue about racism in transformational support. It reflects an approach to the trauma of racism and white privilege in the relational process demonstrating the importance of self-care and the possibility of creating new ways of elevating self-esteem and being with each other.
Titles
Aint I a woman, A talk about the therapeutic needs of black women: Understanding and exploring the multidimensional effect of shame, self-blame, isolation, internalized anger, internalized sexism & internalized racism, and the silencing nature of oppressions as they impact on the self-expression, self-esteem and intersecting identities of black African/Caribbean/Asian women & families.
Paying Attention to Early influences of Racism: Engaging with the process and impact of childhood, intergenerational and ongoing experiences of racism and the social and personal context of therapeutic support. The seminar encourages Anti-Oppressive practice and
a dialogue about acknowledging skin complexion and its relationship to self-esteem.
Therapeutic rupture: This talk explores rupture and repair with specific recognition to anti-oppressive practice, the context of race relations and giving a voice to the often unspoken.
It encourages the therapist to embrace the therapeutic Process and encourage dialogue where ruptures evoke silence, humiliation and shame in both the therapist and client.
Talks about Clinical Supervision:
The Trauma of Racism: This talk, presented at the Trauma conference 2020, outlines ways of unmasking racism in Clinical Supervision. Racism often gets denied in the very place where it should be faced and explored, interrupted and trauma facilitated. This raises the question. Can we speak the unspeakable and do we dare to address the many dimensions of racism in therapeutic practice and supervision?
Anti-racist Supervision: A short talk about Anti-racist supervision with Psychologists at Manchester Institute of Education. The talk addresses a context of racialized process that occurs in therapeutic work and clinical supervision, as an element of the dynamic process between, therapist clients and supervisor. It is political and personal and therefore an important occurrence in the psychological, physical and emotional process of therapeutic triads.
